New Year, New You - Style Resolutions for 2023

New Year, New You - Style Resolutions for 2023

By Adeline J. Wells

The end of 2022 is near, with the start of a new year upon us.  This annual shift in time is often marked by champagne toasts, ball drops, and choruses of Auld Lang Syne.  It is also the common start of New Year’s Resolutions, or the promise of such.  At Belvedere, we believe that the turn towards a new year is the perfect opportunity to make resolutions in all aspects of life, including fashion.  Below, here are a few ideas to enhance your personal style in 2023.

Basics Check-In

While everyone loves a unique statement piece, it is important to stay up-to-date on maintaining the most basic options in your wardrobe as well. We are talking about the classic button down, t-shirts, crew socks, your go-to pair of black jeans. Any number of factors can cause bodies to shift and change throughout the year, from workout habits to diet, stress, etc. These factors can also affect how clothing fits; when it comes to things we wear regularly, we might not even notice how a shirt may not fit quite right anymore, or contains a few-too-many stains or tears. This year, take stock of your basics, and ensure that even the most simple items in your wardrobe are serving you well.

Shop More Sustainably

It is no secret that fast fashion and the impulse-buy culture are having a significant impact on the planet.  Beyond the environmental and ethical costs, purchasing cheaply made, mass-produced clothing removes any sentiment of specialness or meaning in a piece. Shopping sustainably can be done in a variety of ways; rather than buying new, some might opt to shop for gently-worn items by way of vintage stores, second-hand shops, or online retailers such as eBay and Depop. Others might do more research into the environmental and social impact of different brands, investigating how clothes are crafted, what materials are used, and how the individuals who craft them are paid and treated. Whatever the manner you choose, shopping with sustainability in mind is an excellent goal for not only your closet, but the world at large.

Accessorize

One of the easiest ways to spruce up an outfit is by leaning into accessories.  Small, simple items such as a colorful scarf, funny-framed sunglasses, or a unique hat silhouette can put a different spin on a look, lending to an entirely different feel.  Men’s jewelry is another arena we recommend delving into this year; in addition to your traditional watch, try playing with different style chains, pinky rings, and pearls. Sometimes it is the smallest part of an outfit that can have the most lasting impact.

Quality over Quantity

Quality over quantity is a timeless rule of fashion.  Rather than having a multitude of similar-looking, inexpensively made pieces that vary slightly, there is something to be said for having fewer pieces that are well-designed, bear good craftsmanship, and were made to endure the test of time.  Not only is this more sustainable, but it is an easy way to elevate the worth of your closet as a whole.

At Belvedere, one of the most timeless pieces in our collection is the Batta Shoe. In line with the typical formula for a men’s shoe, this design is a cap shoe fitted with laces and a slim, sleek contour.
