Luxury dress shoes often get a bad rap for being uncomfortable to wear. Popular designs are commonly constructed from sturdy, high quality leather that don’t give way for flexibility, nor conform to the foot in ways that other materials do. Here are a few simple ways to make your dress shoes more enjoyable to wear:
Insoles
While they may sound old and unfashionable, the addition of insoles can significantly upgrade the comfortability of your dress shoes; a much more cost-efficient alternative to resoling altogether. Insoles provide arch support that is mostly absent in dress shoes, as well as adding additional cushion. Most dress shoes have very form-fitting designs that don’t leave much room for expansion. For this reason, consider finding a set of short insoles to keep in your pair of shoes; soles around ⅔ inch should be able to reasonably fit inside narrow molds.
Stretch
Just like our bodies, leather shoes need stretch in order to remain limber, soft, and equipped to work correctly! The easiest way to do this is to purchase a shoe tree; while designed to hold the shoe’s shape, they are an excellent option to gently stretch the leather as well. Shoe trees are typically made of cedar wood; with a light, clean fragrance, this wood also contains antibacterial properties that help keep the shoes smelling fresh.
Leather Conditioner
Another way to keep the leather supple is to condition it well with a leather conditioner containing lanolin. Made from sheep’s wool, lanolin is a natural wax that is deeply moisturizing to leather without damaging its hue. As the leather’s oils are nourished, the leather softens so that it may better conform to the foot, and is thus more comfortable. Conditioners are best applied with a soft cloth post-cleaning, while the leather is still slightly damp.
Upgrade Your Socks
If you are hesitant about trying to alter the leather altogether, consider making a simple swap in the quality and material of your socks. Merino wool socks are a favorite for all types of footwear as they are moisture-wicking, keeping feet dry and smelling fresh even after long periods of wear. Ranging in weaves and weight, thin pairs work remarkably well with dress shoes, and the high quality material deters tears and thinning. Whether you opt for a simple, solid color or a patterned design, merino wool socks will ensure that you don’t have to sacrifice comfort for high style.

The days continue growing longer, the sun warmer; there is no denying that summer is now upon us. As we gradually shift from one season to the next, we are reminded that our footwear is, more often than not, in need of a shift as well. Here are the three styles that you need in your wardrobe to keep you comfortable this summer:
Sandal
Of course, nothing evokes the sentiment of warm weather like a fresh summer sandal. The world of men’s sandals has not always been as robust as that of women’s styles, and in the past would consist of foam flip flops, rubber slides, or other typical “dad sandal” silhouettes. Fortunately, fashion has evolved to recognize that gents deserve easy, breezy, stylish summer footwear too. Passing on the synthetic materials, consider opting instead for sandals made from leather; a simple swap that easily elevates any look. Popular designs include twists on a traditional oxford shoe with cutouts, or variations on traditional Mexican huarache leather sandals. Choosing a sandal with a closed toe will help take any beachy look to night seamlessly.
Loafer
While popular all year round, the loafer is a favorite during warm months in particular. The easy, slip-on-slip-off style oozes a laid back appeal; exactly what we want for those long summer days. As opposed to the pairs you might wear during autumn and winter, the summer loafer carries a different sort of energy, and should be selected as such. Swap out your darker colored, sophisticated loafers for a pair in a lighter hue, such as a warm brown, cream, or even a pastel. This season may be the time to experiment with design features that you haven’t before, such as the duality of a two-toned leather shoe, tassels, or patterned designs. Summer is about ease and fun; don’t hesitate to play around with your style as well.
Sneaker
The influx of warm, beautiful weather prompts the desire to be outside; taking strolls, going to parks, and just being in nature. We firmly believe that comfort is key in fashion; for this reason, sneakers should have a place in every gentleman’s wardrobe, no matter their role or age. This summer, consider choosing a sneaker that has flair; one that balances the world of style with a casual feel.
At Belvedere, we pride ourselves in bridging two worlds, bringing the class of elevated Italian leather into the realm of athleisure. Our Bene Shoe is a favorite for this reason. Crafted from Genuine Ostrich and Calf leather, the Bene is a narrow, form-fitting sneaker that remains sleek. The two leathers are woven together to create a mod design; available in both black and white, intricate details add texture to the cushiony rubber sole. Featuring a tiny silver crocodile on the laces, the Bene will have you walking in comfort and style all summer long.

Fashion is a global phenomenon, yet there are certain places that endure as hubs in the industry. Whether it is the craftsmanship, the roster of name-brand designers, or the streetwear embedded in the culture, different places sport their own widely revered twist on modern menswear. Here are a few of the top cities for men’s fashion today:
Milan
Milan is hailed as one of the top fashion capitals of the world, and with good reason. The city is known for the array of high-end fashion houses that call the Italian city home, including Armani, Prada, Versace, and Dolce & Gabbana. In addition to these luxury brands, Milan is also a hub for bespoke tailors and suit shops. If you have an appetite for quality, name-brand clothing, this city is one whose streets you will definitely be walking in style.
Tokyo
Fashion in Japan’s capital city is known for its attention to detail, as well as its specialty of high-end, custom tailors that cater specifically to the client at hand. Tokyo is a notable center for quality artisanship for suits and dress shoes, which makes it a key city in the world of bespoke men’s formal wear. Tailors with refined skills can be found at department stores in the Ginza district, as well as small local tailor shops. Further, Tokyo has made its mark with its own twist on streetwear styles, notably with popular brands such as BAPE and Neighborhood.
Stockholm
Simplicity is key when it comes to fashion designs in the Nordic nations; for this reason, Stockholm is well recognized as one of the key international players in men’s fashion today. The city has grown to be the focal point for the minimalist fashion trends that are growing in popularity across Europe in particular, drawing in contrast to maximalism typically found in other hubs such as New York or Tokyo. Boutique design brands such as Acne Studios, Our Legacy, and Gabucci hold the helm for procuring chic, yet simple style innovation.
New York City
Widely considered one of the largest cultural melting pots in the world, it is no surprise that New York City is where the wide ranges of fashion come together and blend as well. The city has borne witness to nearly every fashion trend that overtakes America, from luxury to Americana and vintage. Deeply influenced by the culture of hip-hop and street art, New York has also birthed a plethora of streetwear labels who remain leaders in modern fashion, including Supreme, Awake NY, and Public School. The resulting reputation is one that holds its own across the many facets of the industry today; whatever your tastes, New York has something for everyone.

At Belvedere, we pride ourselves in crafting sophisticated footwear from high-quality leather, designed to stand the test of time. However, shoes and boots are not the only leather pieces that should be deemed space in your wardrobe; artisans around the world work with a variety of different cuts and leathers to create a plethora of fashion staples. Here are a few of our favorite leather accessories for the gentlemen of today:
Suspenders
Take a step back in time with a pair of leather suspenders. Popularized in the early 19th Century, suspenders were originally worn to support high cut trousers and skirts with which a belt would, at that point in time, be viewed as unstylish. Today, they can be found paired with almost all styles of pants, shorts, trousers, etc., and can give any look an elegant twist from another era. Leather suspenders are a great option to elevate the accessory further, for a true vintage feel.
Leather Gloves
The accomplice to any leather jacket, consider upping your wardrobe with a pair of stylish leather driving gloves. Originally designed to protect drivers’ hands from fatigue caused by vibration, the term “driving gloves” typically now encompasses any pair of quality fitted gloves, often crafted from Italian Calf leather that is soft and flexible. They can be worn to protect your hands as the seasons shift, or while driving for a classy play on an outfit.
Wallet
While we often don’t think about it, one’s wallet is one of their most utilized accessories over the course of a day. Consider opting for a fine leather wallet, perhaps the most classic leather accessory for men. Not only do they feel more elevated than many metal or nylon wallets on the market, but the leather is also designed to remain supple and moldable, easily carried in a back pocket or jacket without striking as uncomfortable. Commonly made from full grain cowhide, a leather wallet is an investment that is sure to last.
Belt
Finally, a casual belt is an excellent leather staple for any collection. Slimmer belt bands tend to be most popular for the warmer months, as summer continues to grow near. At Belvedere, we design slim belts in a variety of leather cuts and colors, ranging from Alligator to Eel leather, classic black to sweet Rose Pink. No matter your preferences, a high quality leather belt remains an excellent element in any gentleman’s wardrobe.

With May upon us, there is no question that we are now fully immersed in the year's festival season. From small, local affairs such as Lightning in a Bottle or Wonderstruck, to large-scale names such as Bonnaroo, Summerfest, or Lollapalooza, spring and summer are home to a plethora of interesting, fun-filled festivals no matter where you are located. In addition to an abundance of art, food, and music, these events also serve as the platform for their own unique breadth of fashion moments. Here are a few style tips for your next festival look, including a pair of our favorite Belvedere boots.
Breathable, Flowy Tops
Spring and summer weather means lots of sun; no one wants to be stuck in a shirt that is tight, too warm, or uncomfortable. Instead, opt to don for a flowy, breathable top on your festival days. Lightweight cotton is a favorite material for such events, as the material is lightweight and airy while typically less costly than high-end silk or linen; you don’t want to wear your most expensive styles to an event in the elements! Silhouettes could range from a classic cotton t-shirt to a loose button down, or a poet’s shirt for a cool, breezy look. No matter the style, a fun print is always a plus!
Statement Sunglasses
No one wants to be caught at a festival without sunglasses. In addition to blocking the harsh, relentless beams from the sun, sunglasses can also provide protection from dust, debris, or pollen floating through the air on festival grounds. Consider opting for a statement pair of sunglasses to enhance your festival attire. From gold-lined aviators with colorful lenses to a unique geometric or campy cut, a pair of statement sunglasses is a sure way to bring some light to any look.
Accessories
Warm weather makes it difficult to utilize layers to make a fashion statement; when in doubt, always opt for accessories! Pieces such as natural beaded necklaces and patterned bucket hats bring an earthy, laid-back vibe to the occasion. With festival must-haves such as water bottles, a sunglasses case, sunscreen and a phone, a festival bag is an excellent contribution to any look. Not only does this keep your personals secure, but it is also a way to subtly tie together your outfit as well. Consider a sleek backpack or knapsack design for easy wear.
Festival Footwear
With several days of walking, standing in lines, and, of course, late-night dancing ahead of you, quality footwear is a must. At Belvedere, our Como Boot is the perfect festival form that strikes as both comfortable and fashion-forward. Crafted from Genuine Ostrich Leg and Italian Leather, this boot is a classic hiker boot silhouette with an elevated twist. Available in both black and Antique Brandy, the dual leathers have intricate details that, paired with the checkered laces, provides for a cool, contrasting look. With a cushion insole and a rubber sole, the Como is a sure way to ensure that you won’t need to compromise comfort for style this season.

In this day and age, we as a society are so accustomed to having whatever we want right at our fingertips. From groceries to films to fashion, we are able to order whatever we desire right to our doorstep, and just as easily return or exchange whatever does not fit or serve our needs. However, the expansion of fast fashion has also made clothing seem dispensable in the eyes of many, leading to a disaster in terms of environmental waste. It has also led to the gradual deterioration in the way we regard fashion as an art, curated by the likes of designers, seamstresses, and tailors. It is in this vein that we argue the case for the gentlemen of today to find their own personal tailor; whether they are making emergency repairs or helping you find the perfect fit on a vintage piece, tailors are skilled members of the fashion world who can help take any look of yours to the next level.
Find the Perfect Fit
While we know that bodies come in all shapes and sizes, clothing that is off-the-rack rarely caters to this fact. The majority of clothing sold in stores or online could be altered in some way, slight or significant, that would allow for it to better fit the wearer. Examples could include taking a spot in to make it tighter, hemming the legs slightly, or loosening material in the shoulders for better movement. Having a quality tailor in your rolodex gives you the option to elevate your clothes to the perfect fit; the best version of them that will best fit you.
Emergencies
Everyone has experienced a last-minute wardrobe malfunction or emergency. Whether it is popping a button, tearing a seam, or ripping a hole in your favorite pair of jeans, no one enjoys being down-and out related to a good outfit. Having a tailor you trust makes impending emergencies a much less daunting occurrence. Especially when they are known to work quickly and efficiently, your tailor will have you and your clothes back in the world in no time.
Invest in Your Community
As we increasingly outsource our shopping and repairs online, we often forget that there are people with honed, sought-after skills right in our own communities. Finding a personal tailor in your area is a way to invest in these trades that have been staples for centuries, but are increasingly becoming overlooked in the busy world of today.
Sustainability
In the era of fast fashion, it can be tempting to merely purchase something new that you know will fit, even though it may not be the most environmentally friendly option. Finding a personal tailor opens your wardrobe to the possibilities of pieces that have been worn, torn, but still have plenty of life left in them. By utilizing someone you trust with the skills to change the fit of a timeless piece to best fit your frame, the world of gently used clothing and vintage clothing becomes open to you as well. This makes for a cleaner environment for all, and better, much more stylish wardrobe for you.

Fingers are still crossed but we may have turned a corner; spring finally seems to be in the air. The holidays during this season possess a different feel than those that occur during other times of the year. There is a lightness with them: a joy following winter’s chill, when we are reunited with friends and family outdoors once again. This year, consider sprucing up your spring holiday style with a few tips below, including a pair of our favorite Belvedere shoes.
Brighter Color and Patterns
Lightening the mood of your winter wardrobe can be easily done by infusing it with more color and print. Pastels are commonly associated with this season, and for good reason; the soft colors embody the gentle transcendence of spring without overwhelming with hue. Subtle patterns are also a favorite way to brighten a holiday look, such as gingham or railroad stripes.
Linens
Material is another factor that can have a significant impact on the feel of an outfit. Opting for clothing made from lightweight, absorbent textiles such as linen will make the transition to mild weather more comfortable, and more fashionable as well! Well known for its moisture wicking capabilities, linen shirts and pants are an excellent choice when looking to match the mood of spring for the holiday.
Tie it Up
While still popular, neckties often feel too formal when paired with a relaxed holiday outfit. Consider opting for a skinny tie or a bowtie to add a bit of a flair to your look without the stuffiness. Skinny ties tend to have a more casual appeal to them, while bowties always supply a fun twist. Finding either in a floral print or pattern can add a colorful splash to an otherwise neutral look.
Jewelry
We are always fans of jewelry on men, especially when paired with a holiday outfit. Contemplate opting for a simple style to add some visual appeal to your look. A thin chain peeking out from under a button- up shirt is always a favorite, or a string of pearls atop a classic t-shirt. Whether traditional round or organic, natural shapes, pearls are one piece jewelry will always add a beautiful touch.
Loafer
Of course, the perfect pair of spring shoes will always finish off the outfit for your spring holiday. At Belvedere, we favor our Matteo loafer to pair with any holiday look. Crafted from Genuine Shark Leather, this shoe has beautiful textural detailing similar to a subtle cross hatch, featuring leather lining, stitching, and a clean leather sole. Available in Brown and Blue Steel, the Matteo slip on shoe is the perfect fit to help you slip into a light spring mood.

Following the recent wave of the Golden Globes, SAG Awards, and the Academy Awards, the world of cinema is still dominating social conversation. While storylines and technology may have modernized over the years, there are certain characters that remain beacons of fashion, even today. When curating your current wardrobe, here are three films with icons to look to for inspiration:
North by Northwest
An Alfred Hitchcock favorite, works by the “Master of Suspense” feature not only thrilling events, but “killer” fashion as well. 1959’s North by Northwest is one example, in which Cary Grant plays an advertising executive mistaken for a secret agent. His style throughout the film is characterized by a simple and well-cut gray suit that matches his hair; a composed, elegant look that is representative of the times and carried by Grant’s suave manner. The suit is typical to reflect that his character is a typical, average man. However, little details such as matching gray socks and lack of a belt work to elevate the look in a minute, yet definite way. North by Northwest is one film that maintains one doesn’t have to be flashy to remain stylish.
Shaft
While the storylines may have evolved and changed with the times, the fashion in the Shaft series has remained timeless. Centered around one family’s three generations of New York City police detectives, all named John Shaft, the action-crime films range from 1971 to 2019, embracing themes of Black Power, masculinity, and sexuality across that timeframe. Shaft’s quintessential leather look spans the decades as well; while varying in length and fit, well-cuts leather jackets are a staple throughout the films. The wardrobe color palettes remain earthy and warm as well, including browns, olives, black, and deep plums; colors that evoke a mood both polished and sharp. Further enhanced by turtlenecks and a classic fedora, the Shaft style is one that will remain eternally cool.
Scarface
The beloved crime drama detailing the life of a Cuban refugee-turned-drug lord, director Brian de Palma’s 1983 Scarface is famous for its style as well. Al Pacino’s Tony Montana maintains a wardrobe that evokes the colorful vibrance of 1980’s Miami, consisting of silk shirts, floral prints, and the fan-favorite baby blue suit. While his clothing definitely makes a statement, Montana’s accessories throughout the film add definite volume to the movie’s fashion legacy. From suave pocket squares to oversized aviators, layered chains beneath open shirts and more, consider this classic when looking to take your look to the next level.
As evidenced in all of these films, well-designed footwear is the base of any iconic outfit. One of our long-standing favorites at Belvedere is our Siena Shoe; a typical oxford style with an elevated twist. Crafted from Genuine Ostrich Leg Leather, this shoe features a diverse and detailed texture across its planes, making it visually appealing while still remaining refined. With a rounded moc toe and leather lining, the Siena is available in black as well as navy, deep burgundy, and a warm amber. No matter the color, this smart silhouette will provide you with the elegance of a star.

March always seems to be the wildcard month of the year; the time that truly dictates whether winter will be prolonged or if spring will have an early reign. This year it appears to be the former, with snow storms sweeping across much of the country. Despite the cold and gloom that this season brings, freshening your wardrobe with vibrance and color is an easy way to summon some seasonal warmth. Here are a few ideas for how to brighten your mid-winter wardrobe:
Add an Ascot
Not everyone is a fan of scarves; an ascot is a simpler, subtler option that adds some color to an outfit without the bulk. Often crafted from silk, the lightweight material won’t weigh you down as you move throughout the day. Consider opting for a design with bold colors or a vibrant pattern. Even if the rest of your outfit is composed of more winter-oriented clothes, the ascot adds a visual appeal that will brighten the spirit of the look.
Switching to Lighter Denim
As we are still very much in the season of denser, warmer clothing, it is likely your outfits still largely consist of denim pants. However, beginning to swap out your black and dark denims for lighter washes is an easy way to begin lightening the mood of your wardrobe. This can be done with not only jeans, but with denim shirts and jackets as well. Especially when paired in contrast with darker slacks or shirts, light wash denims are a great way to signal that you are ready for spring.
Opt for Layers
We typically associate layering with autumn, when fresh waves of fashion roll in and the weather often flits from warm to chilled.. Designing outfits with different layers is a great way to brighten your mid-winter wardrobe as well. Consider incorporating different colors and patterns for a rich visual appeal. While not only diversifying what is presented to the eye, layers also allow you to be ready for whatever changes the weather presents. Winter weather won’t last forever; staying ready for warmth is the best way to summon it into existence.
Step into the New
Breaking out a pair of fresh shoes is always a good move when shifting between seasons. For this time of year, a pair of two-toned shoes is an excellent style to visually blend the old with the new. At Belvedere, our Varo Shoe is one such fashion that will revitalize your winter wardrobe. A highlight of our new collection, this variation on the classic oxford is crafted from Chocolate and Antique Tan Genuine Alligator Leather, topped with Eel Wing Tips. The result is a stylish, smart shoe that evokes a sort of warmth, perfect for these late winter months. With immaculate detailing, leather lining, and our Belvedere emblem etched into the sole, the Varo is one shoe that will put a spring in your step for the remainder of this season.

Good style is about more than simply wearing fashionable clothes; it is about maintaining a well-groomed, elevated energy for your being. One of the most common contributions to style is a signature cologne; a scent that others may associate with you, one that enhances your personal atmosphere. However, cologne is too often left to fade throughout the day, or it may be overwhelming and too strong. Here are a few tips for how to properly apply and wear cologne, aiming to ensure it keeps you smelling fresh all day long:
Shower First
Cologne is best applied after a warm shower, when the skin is clean and the pores are open. It is always a good idea to moisturize first, which helps the cologne absorb into the skin more efficiently. Many experts recommend applying cologne while still naked, before the body has been touched by fabric fibers. All of these circumstances help create a clean slate for the scent to cling to, melding with your body’s chemistry to become one fragrance.
Create the Proper Distance
Experts recommend maintaining a distance of three to six inches from the skin when applying a spray cologne. Spraying any further away risks under-applying, while any closer might make the cologne too concentrated. A light application from six-inches away means that the target area should be properly covered without being oversaturated. For oil or wax-based colognes, it is important to dab the cologne onto the skin as opposed to rubbing, which breaks the molecular bond within the fragrance, causing it to fade faster.
Focus on the Hot Spots, Not Clothes
Too often, men will make the mistake of applying cologne onto their clothes, as opposed to the skin. While intended to make it last longer, this tactic prevents the cologne from mixing with one’s natural oils, resulting in the scent remaining flat.
Instead, apply cologne onto areas of the body that emit heat; this helps the fragrance diffuse, mingling with the bodies’ chemistry to create a signature twist on the scent. Hot spots include the pulse points, neck, upper chest, forearms, and inner-elbow.
Choose the Right Cologne for You
When searching for a new cologne, remember that you are the one who will be wearing the scent each day; above all, you need to like it for yourself. Most colognes are marketed by two or three fragrance notes that make up the bulk of the scent, which evaporate over the course of wear. Some may enjoy more woody, musky notes, while others may prefer lighter notes that have a more floral, herbaceous tone. When considering what you prefer, remember that the top fragrance notes evaporate the quickest, while the base notes, often the boldest, stay on the skin and last the longest.
Many recommend doing some research before shopping for a scent in-store, considering which notes you may prefer. When you do shop for a cologne in person, it is a good idea to blog the scents on provided cardboard test strips initially, as this provides a neutral baseline for the fragrance to be tested on. Be sure to not test more than three colognes on your skin, as this can cause your olfactory receptors to be overwhelmed and shut down.
Enjoy the experiment. Regardless of the scent you choose, it is important to remember that while the cologne may be temporary, the enhancement to your being and satisfaction of smelling good is what will last.

February is widely recognized as the season of love. Hallmark Holiday or not, Valentine’s Day tends to rule the month with its bow and heart-shaped arrow, painting store aisles pink and white. While flowers and chocolates are popular tokens of affection in the United States, different countries from around the world have their own unique ways to celebrate love.
Romania
Known as Dragobete, Romania honors sentiments of love on February 24th of each year. A day dedicated to both lovers and nature, this holiday recognizes the engagements of the youth as well as the coming of the spring season. Lovers celebrate this day by picking fresh flowers, singing by rivers, washing their faces with snow for good luck, and dancing the hora, a traditional Romanian folk dance.
China
Regarded as one of the oldest observances, the Sisters’ Meal festival is celebrated on the 15th of March by the Miao people in Southern China. Young women collect leaves and wildflowers from the mountains to dye bowls of rice, which are then offered on silk fabric to young men walking the streets. Different artifacts and gifts are hidden within the rice, each holding different meanings; garlic implies the woman does not wish to be in contact with the man, while Chinese parsley means the woman wishes to marry. Both men and women sing and dance together, the women donning traditional dresses and silver headdresses.
Guatemala
Guatemala celebrates Valentine’s Day as El Día del Cariño, translating to The Day of Affection. Rather than just focusing on romantic lovers, this is a day to celebrate platonic love as well. Friends, families, and colleagues all share cards, candy and flowers, celebrating love in all its forms. There is also an annual Old Love Parade that takes place in Guatemala City, featuring the nation’s senior citizens and the love they share.
Philippines
Valentine’s Day is taken to new heights in the Philippines, where hundreds of couples take part in mass public weddings across the nation. The nuptials are sponsored by the government, intended to assist couples who cannot afford to wed in a more traditional setting. In some areas the rings, cakes, and flowers are included, making February 14th the most popular wedding anniversary in the country.
Bulgaria
Valentine’s Day is known as Trifon Zarezan Day in Bulgaria. Celebrated as Day of the Winemakers, the day is intended to honor St. Trifon, the patron saint of the vineyards. Traditionally, this was the first day of season’s work at the vineyards across Bulgaria’s countryside; laborers would trim the unnecessary branches and celebrate with a feast. Today, Bulgarians tend to blend the two holidays, participating in parades and honoring love over a bottle of wine.
No matter how or where one celebrates Valentine’s Day, love can always be celebrated in style. At Belvedere, our Genova Shoe is a favorite for the season; a classic silhouette with a slip-on design, this shoe was made with both high fashion and comfort in mind. Crafted from Genuine Alligator Leather, this shoe features a leather lining, a plain toe, and a leather sole imprinted with our emblem. Available in Dark Burgundy, Chocolate Brown, Navy, and traditional Black, the Genova is a smooth style that is destined to impress this February 14th.

The recent bout of cold spells has reminded us that winter is in full-swing, and its end does not seem to be arriving anytime soon. The season of warm clothes and shoes, many of us have traded out our loafers and oxfords for boots that provide more protection from the cold. With a wide range of styles out there, here are a few key boot designs to incorporate into your winter wardrobe:
Chelsea Boot
Perhaps one of the most popular boot styles to date, the Chelsea Boot is a timeless silhouette that can easily be made to accommodate any occasion. Originally dating back to the Victorian Era, they gained significant popularity during the height of the Swinging Sixties’ mod culture in London. A sleek ankle boot with an elastic side panel, the Chelsea is a semi-casual boot made to be pulled off and on with ease. Crafted from Genuine Alligator Leather, our Ivan Boot is a modern, elevated version of this classic style.
Chukka Boot
The Chukka Boot’s name was derived from the game of polo, in which a chukka is a single period of play. Another popular ankle boot, this design features less eyelets than most other lace-up boots, resulting in a more relaxed, casual appearance. Made from two pieces of leather or suede, the Chukka typically features crepe soles and a rounded toe. Also dubbed the Desert Boot, this style pairs well with time spent outdoors.
Combat Boot
While the name may evoke mental images of helmets and camouflage, the modern Combat Boot can be worn for warmth, utility, and fashion alike. Characterized by a rounded toe, a lace up front, and a tough, hardy exterior, this style is often paired with the heavier, warmer clothing that winter requires. At Belvedere, our Damian Boot follows the template of a typical Combat Boot; crafted from Genuine Alligator and Italian Calf, it is a heavier, chunkier boot made to endure the natural elements.
Dress Boot
The Dress Boot is a more trim, smart boot style that pairs well with your most formal attire. Recognized by its slim silhouette, clean lines, and narrow toe shape, this boot is designed to ensure your look stays sharp all the way down to the toe. Like our timeless Stefano Boot, Dress Boots are generally an ankle boot with a lace up front to neatly close the boot underneath a suit, trousers, or jeans.
As winter will reliably loom on, it is important to ensure that your footwear remains reliable and protective as well. At Belvedere, we have curated our thoughtful selection of boot styles to reinforce the idea that you don’t have to compromise function for fashion.
The end of 2022 is near, with the start of a new year upon us. This annual shift in time is often marked by champagne toasts, ball drops, and choruses of Auld Lang Syne. It is also the common start of New Year’s Resolutions, or the promise of such. At Belvedere, we believe that the turn towards a new year is the perfect opportunity to make resolutions in all aspects of life, including fashion. Below, here are a few ideas to enhance your personal style in 2023.
Basics Check-In
While everyone loves a unique statement piece, it is important to stay up-to-date on maintaining the most basic options in your wardrobe as well. We are talking about the classic button down, t-shirts, crew socks, your go-to pair of black jeans. Any number of factors can cause bodies to shift and change throughout the year, from workout habits to diet, stress, etc. These factors can also affect how clothing fits; when it comes to things we wear regularly, we might not even notice how a shirt may not fit quite right anymore, or contains a few-too-many stains or tears. This year, take stock of your basics, and ensure that even the most simple items in your wardrobe are serving you well.
Shop More Sustainably
It is no secret that fast fashion and the impulse-buy culture are having a significant impact on the planet. Beyond the environmental and ethical costs, purchasing cheaply made, mass-produced clothing removes any sentiment of specialness or meaning in a piece. Shopping sustainably can be done in a variety of ways; rather than buying new, some might opt to shop for gently-worn items by way of vintage stores, second-hand shops, or online retailers such as eBay and Depop. Others might do more research into the environmental and social impact of different brands, investigating how clothes are crafted, what materials are used, and how the individuals who craft them are paid and treated. Whatever the manner you choose, shopping with sustainability in mind is an excellent goal for not only your closet, but the world at large.
Accessorize
One of the easiest ways to spruce up an outfit is by leaning into accessories. Small, simple items such as a colorful scarf, funny-framed sunglasses, or a unique hat silhouette can put a different spin on a look, lending to an entirely different feel. Men’s jewelry is another arena we recommend delving into this year; in addition to your traditional watch, try playing with different style chains, pinky rings, and pearls. Sometimes it is the smallest part of an outfit that can have the most lasting impact.
Quality over Quantity
Quality over quantity is a timeless rule of fashion. Rather than having a multitude of similar-looking, inexpensively made pieces that vary slightly, there is something to be said for having fewer pieces that are well-designed, bear good craftsmanship, and were made to endure the test of time. Not only is this more sustainable, but it is an easy way to elevate the worth of your closet as a whole.
At Belvedere, one of the most timeless pieces in our collection is the Batta Shoe. In line with the typical formula for a men’s shoe, this design is a cap shoe fitted with laces and a slim, sleek contour.
No matter where you live, winter’s impending arrival will likely bring with it a swift shift in weather. Some may experience an onslaught of snow, salt, and ice; for others it may be rain, or the relentless Stana Ana winds. Just as we update our wardrobes for winter, it is also key to prepare our shoes. Here are some tips to ensure that your leather shoes survive this season’s spell.
Keep Up with Regular Cleanings
While it is always advised to regularly clean leather shoes, it is crucial to do so in the wintertime. Heightened winds will carry with them dirt and dust that cling to shoes, while excess rain, slush, and snow often contain salt; left uncleaned, this can easily weaken and stain leather.
Always start with dusting off the shoes in order to clean off any large debris. Wipe down the leather with a damp rag, taking extra note to cleanse off any salt residue. Remaining salt stains can be removed with a mixture of equal parts water and vinegar; use a damp rag to work through the stain. Wipe off, and allow the shoes to air-dry.
Use a Leather Conditioner
Salt is especially damaging to leather goods; even following a good cleaning, it will often leave leather overly dry, which can lead to brittleness and cracks. Ensure that your shoes are clean before applying a quality leather conditioner that contains lanolin. Conditioners nourish the oils in the leather, keeping them prime so that they don’t dry out. They are best applied with a soft cloth post-cleaning, while the leather is still slightly damp.
Waterproof with a Wax or Seal
After conditioning your leather shoes and allowing them to dry, it is important to properly waterproof them with a wax or seal. There are a variety of different options to waterproof leather, from spray-on sealants to wax-based polishes designed to match the specific leather color. Whether you opt for a spray or a wax seal, these products are created to guarantee that water and salt do not cause permanent damage to your shoe.
Shoe Tree
Following cleaning, conditioning, and waterproofing, shoes should be allowed to rest for 24 hours prior to wear. One of the best ways to store shoes is by way of a cedar shoe tree, which draws any residual moisture from the leather in order to prevent issues such as staining or stretching. The form also helps retain the shoe’s structure, which will diminish the likelihood of any wrinkles forming in the leather. As an added plus, cedar’s antibacterial properties and clean, woody fragrance will keep your shoes smelling fresh (and festive!) all winter long.
The onset of cooler weather brings with it the host of layers, adding another complexity to choosing one’s outfit. One easy way to create an outfit that flows is by pairing a leather belt with a pair of stylish leather shoes. Here are a few tips for pairing your pieces, including Belvedere’s own collection of quality leather goods.
Matching Leather Colors
Perhaps the easiest way to pair your pieces would be to match the colors of your leather shoes and belt. For example, if you are wearing a pair of black shoes, a black belt is always a safe bet. When wearing two-toned shoes, the belt should match the color of the stronger, more dominant tone. Belts are not commonly made out to be a statement piece; matching the leather colors will ensure that the look is tied together without too much distraction for the eye.
Matching the Metals
Similar to matching colors, a look will look put together if the metals on the belt are paired to match any metals on the shoe, or any key metals elsewhere in the outfit. While mixed-metals is definitely a look that is becoming more of a trend, it generally works best when the mixed pieces are worn in close proximity, such as jewelry on the arms and hands. When wearing belts or shoes with metals that catch the eye, it is always a good idea to match them as closely as possible.
Tonal Balance
If you would like to mix up the colors between the shoes and belt, or you don’t have two that will match, it is recommended to try and keep the same color palette throughout the outfit. For instance, if the shoes are crafted from warm-toned leather, it will be best to pair them with a warm-toned belt as well. This way, even if there is variance between hue, the outfit will still flow.
Compliment Textures
Of course, shoes and belts are available in a wide range of leather types, each with their own look and texture. Another good tip for pairing is to try and choose pieces whose textures complement one another. If the leather belt is crafted from Alligator Leather and has a large, smooth pattern of scales, pairing it with shoes textured in the same style will ensure the same aesthetic is kept throughout the outfit. Similarly, a braided belt would work well with a pair of smooth suede shoes, tying the look together visually.
Our Picks
At Belvedere, we craft our belts from a variety of different high quality, exotic leathers, providing our customers with a plethora of options when searching for a belt to go with their leather shoes. The Gallardo boot is crafted from Genuine Caiman Crocodile to create a chunky ankle boot that is perfect for winter. Our collection also includes Caiman Crocodile Belts in the Navy, Black, and a warm brown titled Antique Sport that the Gallardo is available in. Another favorite combination includes our bestselling Mare shoe. A classic oxford silhouette crafted from Genuine Ostrich and Eel, the Mare features large scales on the shoe’s side panels with small, roughly textured Ostrich on top. A two-leather shoe, the Mare could be paired with any of our Ostrich Leg or Eel belts, both of which are available in a wide array of colors that will carry you through any season.

Leaves have turned from green to gold; days grow shorter, and the nights brisk. By mid-October, there is no denying that summer’s spell has ended and we are instead fully in fall fever; a time deemed ideal for layers and warmth. Here are a few ideas to update your wardrobe for autumn, including one of Belvedere’s most unique boot styles.
Trousers
A traditional men’s pant, a quality pair of trousers is a great way to dress up a fall outfit. When crafted from flannel or wool, this fashion staple provides a fresh, warmer look on any casual look. With a slim fit in the leg, trousers can be dressed up with a button-up shirt and blazer for day, just as easily as they can be dressed down for a night-out with a t-shirt and leather jacket. Whatever the mood, a pair of heavier trousers will ensure that you remain both stylish and warm.
Leather Jacket
Perhaps no jacket is associated with autumn more than the classic motorcycle jacket. Typically crafted from genuine leather, motorcycle jackets carry a raw, rugged appeal that we often associate with the very elemental shift towards colder seasons. There are a wide number of different fits to the jacket; tapered fits are favored in Europe, while American motorcycle jackets tend to fit a bit looser through the arms and torso. As with most timeless garments, motorcycle jackets can often be found in vintage or antique stores, especially when they are made from high-quality, durable leather that will last.
Driving Gloves
Every leather jacket will always bode well with a pair of stylish leather driving gloves. Originally created to protect the hands from fatigue caused by the vibration of steering wheels, the term is now more so synonymous with any pair of fitted leather gloves. Often crafted from Italian Calf leather, driving gloves should be soft and supple to provide maximum protection and comfort throughout the cool autumn months.
Fall Cologne
Curating a personal style is about more than what one wears - it is about the full, well-rounded essence that they carry with them wherever they go. One of the ways that this is most significantly evoked is by way of scent; a fragrance that enters the room with one and often lingers after they leave. As we shift towards autumn, consider swapping your lighter summer cologne with a deeper, more robust scent for fall. Colognes with notes of cedar, leather, amber, agarwood, and musk pair particularly well with autumn spirit.
Damian Boot
After a summer of sandals, the arrival of cooler weather always lends a turn towards oxfords, loafers, and boots for footwear; shoes that can be worn while experiencing the beauty of the nature’s changes, One of these styles, the Damian, perfectly merges our high-fashion brand with an outdoors feel. The Damian is a durable, masculine boot that has a chunkier silhouette than other styles. Available in the hue dubbed “ Peanut,” this boot’s warm, rich cognac textured Alligator leather is framed by lighter Italian Calf lining on both top and bottom. With hearty patterned laces, metal eyelets, and a thick rubber sole, the Damian Boot is the perfect style to wear on days spent in nature enjoying the peak of the autumn season.
While trends may come and go, there will always be a place in fashion for vintage goods, which bring the quality, design, and styles of the past to the present day. However, there are a few factors to consider when purchasing vintage fashions, in order to ensure that one is buying a piece of quality that has been properly stored and cared for. These are especially important when sourcing leather goods, whose higher price point often accompanies necessary added care.
Cut of Leather
When shopping for leather goods, one will frequently be presented with pieces noted as being “full grain,” “top grain,” or “genuine leather.”
Full grain leather is the highest quality of leather goods. Taken from the top layer of the hide, its strength and durability makes it more difficult to work with, which is reflected in its price. Full grain includes all of the natural imperfections that make the leather beautiful and special. As it ages it will develop the desired patina effect.
Top grain is the next-highest quality of leather; with the outermost layer of the hide removed, it is a thinner piece that is easier to work with. That top layer’s removal also gives the top grain a smoother, more uniform look.
Genuine leather is more of an umbrella, catch-all term referring to anything that is technically leather. The piece is generally crafted from lower layers of the hide that may be pieced together.
Quality of the Piece
When sourcing vintage goods, it is important to note the condition the leather is in at the time of purchase. Gentle scuffs, distressing, and creases that look natural help create the rugged look that vintage leather is coveted for. However, one should examine the piece for any excessive creasing, cracks, peeling, or oxidation of the leather, all lending to the fact that it hasn’t been cared for properly. Pockets and zippers should be examined as well, as damage to vintage pieces may be more difficult and expensive to fix. It is often beneficial to ask the seller if they have any information about the leather piece’s origin as well, including when it was made, and how it was stored and cared for.
Style
Of course, style is an essential factor when considering purchase of any clothing item. However, an item’s vintage label does not always correlate to a piece that has, or will age well. Vintage leather styles such as motorcycle jackets, racers, blazers, and trench coats seem to be eternal, having endured the test of time to still remain fashionable today. These classic, beloved silhouettes tend to last, and are hailed as being better investments in the long-term than trends of the day.
Follow-Up Care
After purchasing a vintage leather piece, it is a good idea to clean and condition it prior to wearing. Starting with dusting off any debris, one can then use a soft rag and warm, gentle soapy water to clean the leather. After cleaning with a lather, the soap can be rinsed off with a damp cloth before being set out to dry. Following this, a conditioner should be applied with a rag to nourish and soften the leather, making it ready to be worn in style.
A wide range of exotic leathers are utilized to create the luxury goods that rule the fashion world of today, including eel, snake, and alligator leather. Another leather that remains highly sought after is that of the ostrich. While not as common as bovine or other exotics, ostrich leather is revered in fashion for its high-quality, durability, and impeccable texture. At Belvedere, we proudly use ostrich leather when designing and crafting a variety of our own timeless styles.
Originally a byproduct of birds farmed for feathers and meat, ostrich leather is created by tanning the skins of ostriches. Ostrich farming began in South Africa in the 1850’s; the animals were raised for their lush feathers, popularly worn as part women’s oversized hats as they rode in carriages. Following the industry collapse during the World Wars of the early 20th Century, the nation’s Klein Karoo region worked to rebuild the ostrich industry by shifting the focus to meat. Most raw leather skins were shipped to Europe until the first tannery was built near the meat abattoir in 1970, allowing the South African ostrich industry to be self-sustaining through all processes. The end of apartheid in 1993 prompted the government to authorize the exportation of ostrich stock, opening the door for other countries to begin raising the birds. South Africa is still considered the core of the ostrich industry today, with the Klein Karoo Group as its leader.
Part of the reason ostrich leather is sought after is due to its limited supply; the bird has much less body surface area than other animals. Further, this leather is widely appreciated due to its unique appearance and texture. It is characterized by raised points in the hide that form little bumps, or quill follicles from feathers. These bumps are significantly raised near the hide’s center, where the bird’s neck meets the rest of the body; dubbed the “crown,” this is the most sought after portion of the leather. As it is such a small amount of skin, “full quill” ostrich goods are considered to be very luxurious, often accompanied by a higher price tag. The leather is also considerably tough while remaining supple, due to its contents of natural oils. A popular material for cowboy boots in the 1980’s, today ostrich leather is a favorite for a variety of goods such as accessories, handbags, and of course, shoes.
At Belvedere, we use ostrich leather in creating our collection of slim, stylish leather belts, as well as our popular Siena shoe. An elegant take on the timeless oxford silhouette, the Siena is crafted from Genuine Ostrich Leg Leather, which features more of a scaly texture than the Ostrich Quill leather. With a rounded moc toe and leather lining, the Siena is available in black, navy, burgundy, and amber; warm jewel tones that make this silhouette the perfect addition to any autumn look.
As society shifts towards the new autumn season, we can always count on fashion to make its shift as well. Sunglasses and boat shoes are changed out for scarves and oxfords, a telltale sign that cooler weather is imminent. While hats remain a staple throughout the duration of the year, fall tends to spark the resurgence of timeless vintage hat shapes in place of summer’s typical trends. Here are a few distinctive silhouettes whose classic looks always remain stylish, and of course pair well with a quality pair of Belvedere Shoes.
Fedora
Still one of the most favored hat styles today, the fedora was first created and popularized as a women’s hat. French author Victorien Sardou released his play “Fédora” in the late 19th Century, in which the title princess wore the iconic shape, featuring an indented, creased crown and a soft brim. The fedora gained permanence in fashion afterwards, affectionately named after Princess Fédora. After becoming commonly worn amongst gentlemen in the 1920’s, the fedora was often associated with Prohibition-era gangsters, including the notorious Al Capone.
Homburg Hat
Reminiscent of the fedora, the homburg hat is another pointed hat style yet designed with a higher crown. Originally crafted in Bad Homburg, the hat was commonly worn throughout the German Empire by hunters. After Britain’s King Edward VII favored the silhouette on a visit, the hombug gained widespread popularity in the greater fashion world as well, which endured through the turn of the 20th Century. Generally crafted from felt, the homburg is characterized by a sole dent running the length of the crown’s center, and a flat brim with a “pencil curl” shape.
Bowler Hat
Named for a pair of London hatmaking brothers, the bowler hat has remained a favorite since its creation in 1849. The bowler is generally made of rigid felt with a low, rounded crown often paired with a thick ribbon. Also called the derby hat, it was originally designed to protect the head from branches while horseback riding. Well-loved by many, its rounded form allowed for the bowler to remain on the head even when matched with strong winds, making it a practical favorite of latter-day cowboys and railroad workers in the American West.
Porkpie Hat
With a circular brim and a short, flat crown, the pork pie hat is a shape that still encapsulates a truly vintage feel. The hat was designed in the mid-19th Century, named for its odd resemblance to a traditional English meat pie. After gaining widespread popularity during the Great Depression, the style was associated with the iconic zoot suit, commonly worn in the blues and jazz scenes of the 1940’s. The pork pie is most often associated with saxophonist Lester “Prez” Young, who nearly always performed with the short-crowned hat atop his head.
The Sunday of summer, there is a certain melancholy that accompanies the month of August. Most of Europe opts to vacation during this month, flocking from their homelands to travel, tasting the sweet season’s freedom one last time as it softly comes to an end. August is a time of transition, a breather given to Italy’s crowded piazzas, beaches, and hillsides before its peoples’ return to start anew. One place this is prevalent is Cinque Terre, a string of vibrant villages along Northern Italy’s coastal cliffs. With roving vineyards and abundant seafood, Cinque Terre is perhaps best known for its array of sunny, brightly colored buildings. Staining the seaside to a sunset with shades of gold, blue, and pink, Cinque Terre embodies the essence of summer even as the seasons begin to shift.
It is with this inspiration that we introduce our autumn men’s collection, il Passaggio. Translating to “the passage” in Italian, il Passaggio evokes the spirit with which Italians approach this time of year. A season of slow, steady change, late summer in Italy still hones in on warmth and light with gentle, gradual looks toward fall. Just as the autumn leaves dim from vibrant to dark, il Passaggio is a collection of colorful shoes that range from the rainbow’s lighter hues to neutrals with richness and depth. Designed to be both comfortable and styled with ease, these silhouettes will outlast August’s final days. Worn well with socks as the days grow short and cool, they are designs meant for the turn towards the year’s end.
This sentiment is evident with our Valter Shoe, a sleek take on the typical oxford. In addition to black, the Valter is also available in white, Summer Blue, and a lovely Rose Pink; hues that are reminiscent of the rainbow that lines Cinque Terre’s rugged coastline. With buttery layers of Genuine Caiman and Lizard leather, the shoe also features a raised, textured pane on the tip, not unlike the spine of a crocodile; a lively detail to the common silhouette. For a more classic look, the Gosto Shoe is a loafer that is the perfect late summer shoe, smooth-sided and easy to be slipped on or off. The Antique Brandy is a beautiful, warm hue that evokes the sweetness of a season coming to close. Crafted from Genuine Caiman and Italian Calf, this loafer provides a smooth step from warm to cooler days.
As the days grow shorter and autumn nights lengthen, many opt to exchange summery styles for more traditional fall fashions. A twist on the classic Chelsea Boot, the Ivan is a smart shoe to step through this seasonal shift. A fashion staple for decades, the Chelsea gained popularity in 1960’s London at the height of the mod culture; another time of transition and change. Made of Genuine Alligator Leather, the Ivan is available in a variety of neutrals and deep blues that perfectly embody the turn towards fall and winter weather. An ankle boot with sweeping planes of bold, rich texture, the Ivan has leather lining with our signature Belvedere emblem engraved on its leather sole.
At Belvedere, we prioritize creating beautiful, versatile designs that will endure, carrying the wearer throughout the changes of the year. It is in this vein that we introduce il Passaggio, a transitional collection with a twist on traditional styles.

Every brand has a story; Belvedere Shoes’ is one born from humble beginnings. In 1986, founder Stefano Giovacchini left his home of Florence, Italy for California to chase the classic American Dream of prosperity and success. Freshly out of the Air Force, he emigrated with his wife and young daughter while unable to speak a word of English, with only $1,500 to his name. After balancing a host of part-time jobs, Stefano began wholesaling Italian shoes to sell across the country. Eventually opening a factory in Italy of his own, he found the freedom in designing his own high-end styles, paving the way for the empiric Belvedere Shoes name that exists today.
Now, after 30 years in business Stefano’s daughter Francesca is joining him at Belvedere as Director of Marketing, handling the company’s web designs, collection development, and social content. A business owner herself, Francesca has always looked up to her father as a model of consistency and hard work, values he passed down to his daughters. As a child, she would spend summer days “working” in his office: completing small tasks, taking naps under his desk, and playing hide-and seek with her sisters. “It was a place I always looked forward to visiting,” she muses. “My appreciation is deeper now that I am older; to me, Belvedere symbolizes the life that my dad worked to create for our family.”
All too often, our society tends to view accomplished people solely through the lens of their career without paying regard to the other facets that make them who they are. While Stefano’s journey from an immigrant to a prosperous entrepreneur is a true story of success, it must be noted that his career was made possible due to the earnest, unconditional love he has for his family. His dreams for Belvedere were grand, yet it was the dream to provide for his wife and three daughters that was the driving force to make all others into a reality. The beautifully full lives of his children and grandchildren will always be Stefano’s greatest success, a legacy coming full-circle today as Francesca joins him at Belvedere. A daughter following in her father’s well-styled footsteps.
June is the month of Pride, the month of the solstice, the beginning of summer’s balmy reign. It is also the month designated to celebrate fathers and father-figures everywhere. Typically represented with golf, barbecues, and gifts of ties, Father’s Day is a day to honor the men in our lives who are the providers of fatherly love, and oftentimes, fatherly style. While the trends of “dad style” or “dadcore” have evolved, at Belvedere we still create the vintage looks that dads originally made famous, because we believe that all father’s should look as good as they feel.
While dad style tends to maintain a modern twist, the notion could arguably be credited to mid-twentieth century origins. With the invention and widespread popularity of television, classic looks and silhouettes could more easily make their mark on culture. Icons such as Ward Cleaver, George Jefferson, or Ricky Ricardo are well-known initiators of these trends. They dressed smartly, with closets an array of suits with matching bow ties, cardigans in coppers and jewel-tones, starchy slacks that were sleekly pressed, and of course, loafer shoes adorned with fat tassels. Designs such as these are sometimes now housed under the umbrella of “grandpa style”; despite the fact that times have changed, dressing with class will always remain elegant and fashionable.
Our modern-day concept of dad style typically dates to the later half of the twentieth century and the onset of nineties fashion. Perhaps the most famous fad of this era was the acclaimed “Dad Jeans.” Characterized by light stonewashed, high waists, and tapered legs, the widely recognizable silhouette remains favored amongst adults of all ages today. Other common elements include tucked in t-shirts, chunky sneakers, and ballcaps. There is a note of casualness to this modern dad fashion; the trend highlights designs that are more popular amongst the working class. Rather than drawing on elegance, nineties dad fashion is more often distinguished by what is easy, comfortable, and utilitous.
At Belvedere, our wide-spanning collection houses designs that span the evolution of dad style. For those who prefer the nineties casualness, the Marcus Shoe is the perfect sneaker to elevate any laidback look. Made from Genuine Hornback Caiman and Soft Italian Calf Leather, the Marcus’s thick rubber sole lends to popular chunkiness, while details such as texture and a small gold crocodile charm add a modish flare.
Contrastingly, our Batta Shoe exhibits the elegant, traditional style that has been donned by fathers everywhere for decades. Following the typical formula for a men’s shoe, this design is a cap shoe fitted with laces and a slim, sleek contour. The result is a typical looking dress shoe with a fashionable step up; crafted from Genuine Ostrich leather, the Batta has subtle textural details that aid in elevating this classic style, while the tassel accent adds a sophisticated flare. Available in a variety of deep neutral hues, the Batta is the perfect addition to any Father’s Day outfit.
Defined by Merriam-Webster as “a style or technique that is characterized by extreme spareness and simplicity,” minimalist fashion is all about going back to the essentials. Minimalism can often be identified by neutral, easily wearable colors and silhouettes: the perfect white t-shirt, black dress boots, a well-cut pair of jeans, and so forth. Minimalism is arguably the most sustainable styling trend; by relying on utilitarian, high-quality pieces, one can avoid the overproduction and overconsumption that tends to plague the industry via fast fashion.
As far as style trends go minimalism is fairly accessible; due to this it is quite easy to be fashionable with a simple, easily put together look. Small details can make a significant impact on any outfit; this can be done with pops of color or pattern, as well as with different accent accessories such as a pocket scarf, watch, or jewelry. Despite being denounced for its monotony, minimalism has often been viewed as the height of chic in men’s fashion.
Drawing sharp contrast to the bareness of minimalism, maximalist fashion is all about making a bold statement and diversifying oneself from the crowd. Maximalism dips into indulgence in the most stylish way, with flares of extravagance setting each and every outfit apart. Many people tend to link current themes of maximalism to the 2019 Met Gala’s theme of “Camp: Notes on Fashion”; the evening exhibited a wide range of lavish, over-the-top looks whose impact is still visible in fashion today. However, one may also look to the recent COVID-19 pandemic as another factor for maximalism’s current hold on the industry. A raw form of self-expression, fashion seemed to lose its place in the era of stay-at-home orders, masks, and social distancing. As the world began to open up once again, pushing style to the extremes became a form of liberation from the restrictive world we were living in.
Leaning into maximalism can be done in many forms, such as playing with different textures, prints, and silhouettes, layering them on top of one another for a look that is visually stimulating and fun. However, this trend can easily be overdone and made to look gaudy. It takes careful contemplation to create a look that is in balance with style.
At Belvedere, we take pride in creating a wide variety of well-designed, quality shoes to complement the trends of the day, whether they draw on the excess or the essential. For those who enjoy the cleancut, fine lines of minimalist fashion, our Marcus Shoe is an excellent choice for warmer months spent outdoors. Available in neutral white, black, or brown, this sneaker is crafted from Genuine Hornback Caiman and Soft Italian Calf. Featuring a flexible sole for comfort, rich texture, and a gold crocodile charm, the Marcus is the perfect blend of simple and luxurious. For those who are interested in a maximalist approach we have the Vasco Shoe. Also made of Caiman and Soft Calf, the Vasco delves slightly more into the extravagant with an angular, textured frame that resembles a crocodile head, complete with sleek beady eyes on the outside of the shoe and two additional gold crocodiles on the base of the tongue. No matter the trend you prefer, Belvedere Shoes has the perfect style to lace up in as summer rolls in.
No longer something that one is born into, the title of a “gentleman” today earned through manners, class, and of course, style. A true sense of style is cultivated as a reflection of one’s internal attributes and their approach to life. Blending timeless fashions with a modern edge, a gentleman’s style may take on many faces but is always approached with intention and taste. Here are a few ideas for the modern gentleman, including several of Belvedere’s best selling oxford shoes from our Primavera Collection.
Jeans
For the last century, the right pair of jeans has remained a quintessential staple in any wardrobe, much less that of a gentleman. While there are countless blends, brands, and cuts of jeans available on the market, the modern day gentleman knows that true quality lies not within the name on the tag, but the legacy of the ingredients. This is the reason that brands such as Levi’s, Lee, and Wrangler have endured the test of time and remained at the top of the denim industry; they sell high quality, 100 percent cotton jeans in lasting cuts. A classic pair of jeans from any of these three companies is an excellent choice for this essential element in the gentleman’s wardrobe.
Cologne
Just as clothes play to the visual, the right fragrance for the modern gentleman can have a significant influence on their presence in the world. Based in New York City, the ever-popular brand Le Labo approaches fragrance in a similar fashion as the gentleman approaches style: with intention. Operating under a manifesto that speaks to the soul of fragrance, Le Labo blends flavor notes together to design scents that exist within the realm of fresh and familiar. By making thoughtful, well-crafted, non-gendered fragrances, Le Labo has made a name for itself by producing blends that cater to both the masculine and femine energies that gentlemen possess. Favored scents include the heady Noir 29, as well as the cult-favorite wave of nostalgia that is Santal 33.
In a similar vein, a subtle-scented beard oil or lotion is a wonderful product for gentlemen with facial hair; MVRCK by Mitch Skin and Beard Lotion is a well liked option. In addition to having a great fragrance, a lotion’s moisturizing properties are important to consider as we grow closer to summer.
Silk Scarf
While style can take on many forms, true beauty and intention lies within the accessories. One favorite accessory for the modern gentleman is the inclusion of a small, silk scarf in their wardrobe. An easy way to brighten a look, silk scarves have made a large impact on spring fashion this year, with most brands releasing a new print for the season. However, some of the best silk scarves can be found in vintage or antique stores; the epitome of a timeless fashion! Even simply worn tied around the neck or belt loop, a silk scarf can add a pop of color and class to any outfit.
Shoes
Of course, no fashion guide would be complete without the shoes. At Belvedere, our Siena Shoe puts an elegant twist on the classic oxford style. Crafted from Genuine Ostrich Leg Leather, this shoe features a diverse and detailed texture across its planes, posing for a refined look while still remaining visually stimulating. Available in black as well as navy, deep burgundy, and a warm amber, the Siena has a rounded moc toe and smooth leather lining. No matter the occasion, this shoe will make the right statement for any gentleman who dons it.
Another highlight from the Primavera Collection is our Rome Shoe, another elevated oxford. This style features a combination design; Genuine American Alligator delivers the sleek leather element, which when paired with suede, makes for a softer, more gentle look without lacking style. While the Rome is available in both black and camel brown, the affectionately dubbed “Blue Jean” hue is a personal favorite for the shoe. A cool blue composed of varying dark and light tones, this fresh take on the oxford is the perfect shoe for the modern gentleman as the days grow warm.

The Gentleman. It is a term that we use often, and often without truly considering what it means, or how it fits into our world today. Dating back to the Middle Ages, a “gentleman” formerly referred to a man of a particular social stature and wealth. While that definition does not suit this more progressive, inclusive age, the title of a gentleman still holds relevance in our society today. Rather than a particular state of income or status, a gentleman is an all-encompassing state of being; it is a state of mind. To be a gentleman is to be just that - gentle. It is to conduct one’s life with an element of gentleness; to live harmoniously in balance between the masculine and feminine. In our world, a gentleman is not a title that one is born into, but alternately a title that must be earned through the way one lives, as defined by their manners, class, and of course, style.
A gentleman’s manners are perhaps the first thing that this term brings to mind. Often lending to chivalry, a gentleman is thought of as someone who is polite and treats others with respect, opening doors and walking on the side of pavement closest to traffic. In the modern age, chivalry can speak to honor and courtesy on a broader scale, applied to how one interacts with the world at large. A courteous gentleman lives in a way that honors their value and place in this world, while also remaining humble enough to put others’ needs above one’s own when called for; it is to move with empathy. Leaning into the title, this is someone who can maintain a level of tenderness that is too often undervalued in a culture plagued by toxic masculinity. The gentleman is not afraid of these qualities; they are someone who understands the strength that lies in softness.
No longer based upon socio-economic status, our modern day gentleman is also defined by a different type of class; a level of excellence and elegance. For a gentleman to have class means that they have integrity. A classy gentleman lives in a way that is ruled by their principles and values, yet while remaining aware enough to also maintain an open-minded approach to life. To have class is to understand the difference between confidence and arrogance, and to conduct oneself appropriately; to opt for the former when moving throughout this world. For a gentleman to have class, they need to recognize the influence that they hold in society, while understanding how to use it for the greater good.
Finally, a gentleman is also a title earned by one’s sense of style; by cultivating an outward appearance that complements their internal attributes. A gentleman understands the power that comes with presenting themself well; it is someone who takes pride in their appearance without indulging in vanity; someone who maintains a well-groomed appearance because it is something that they value, not because it is required. No longer needing petticoats or tophats, a gentleman’s style is something that is tastefully curated to complement their thoughtful approach to life. Drawing from timeless tastes while maintaining the edge of modern day, the gentleman understands the merits of
At Belvedere, we craft our shoes drawing from classic designs that still suit the modern gentleman. This is evident with our Franco Shoe, a staple in our new Primavera Collection. Crafted from Genuine American Alligator and Italian Calf, the Franco is our elevated, contemporary take on a traditional wingtip oxford. Also referred to as a spectator shoe for its construction of two opposing colors, the Franco is available in white and either black or soft peanut brown, its darker hues accentuated by texturally rich alligator leather. Featuring a five-eyelet lace up, intricate brogue detailing, and our Belvedere emblem on its leather sole, the Franco is ideal for the freshness of the Spring season. Finding balance between a classic design with a modern twist, this favorite style of Belvedere Shoes is the perfect choice for our Gentleman of 2022.

Luxury goods are crafted from a wide variety of leathers; skins are harvested from both land and sea to create the high-end pieces we love, including Ostrich, Eel, and Snake leather. Taken from the hides of the world’s largest reptile, crocodile leather is another valuable medium used by designer brands. One of the most sought-after around the globe, this leather is hailed for its high quality, rarity and beauty. At Belvedere, we thoughtfully, sustainably, and proudly utilize crocodile leather in designing our own brand of fashionable, classic shoes.
Crocodile leather began to truly emerge in the fashion industry in the mid-1800’s, largely due to the American Civil War. A high need for boots, belts, and saddles led to the widespread hunting of American Alligators; this harvest eventually broadened to other crocodile species native to Central America and the Caribbean. The rise of commercial tanning in the early 1900’s led to higher demands for leather by the fashion industry; this resulted in the trading network of crocodiles, specifically Caimans, expanding to South America, Asia, Africa and Australia, greatly reducing wild populations around the world. Threatened with extinction in the 1960’s and ‘70’s, crocodile farming began to gain popularity as a more sustainable method of sourcing the highly-sought skin.
In 1975, the Convention on International Trade in Endangered Species in Wild Flora and Fauna (CITES) entered into force. Regulating the trade of crocodiles and crocodile products, this convention aims to ensure that business is conducted in a way that is sustainable, for the animals as well as for the environment. Crocodile farms are not only relied upon for production of crocodile skin and meat, but they are also now used as an entity to help manage and supplement natural populations. In a variety of regions around the world, crocodile eggs or youths are harvested in farms and reintroduced to the wild when natural populations have depleted. Revenues from these procedures can provide incentives for communities to protect their local wetlands, rather than pursuing development of these ecosystems.
Accounting for less than one percent of the leather industry, crocodile is the most expensive leather in the world, which is why it is often utilized by top designer brands to make their luxury items. This is largely due to the animals’ scarcity, as well as the high level of expertise required throughout tanning and tailoring processes. As aggressive animals who often get into confrontations with others, it is rare for crocodiles to reach adulthood without aging signs or other scars, which is why unmarred crocodile skin is placed at such a high price point. There are two main cuts of crocodile skin; with pronounced scales and a very rough texture, the Back Cut is often used in trimmings. The more common cut is the Belly Cut, which is popular due to its small, fine scale structure and smooth texture; both of these factors make it much more pliable for craftsmanship of goods such as shoes, luggage, and clothing.
At Belvedere, we use Genuine Hornback Caiman Crocodile leather in crafting the Chapo Shoe, one of our most popular styles. An elevated take on the classic oxford, this shoe was designed using leather from the Back Cut of the animal; due to this, the Chapo has a more richly textured, detailed appearance than other leather products. Featuring tieless laces, a cushion insole, and available in a variety of sleek neutral hues, this shoe is the perfect style to wear for comfort while still portraying elegance and class. For the gentleman’s surprise, the Chapo’s leather sole features the caricature of a crocodile sporting a wide-toothed grin. “Never smile at a crocodile,” but when donning this favorite style of Belvedere Shoes, we can ensure that it will be difficult to keep one off your face.

The sun’s rays are getting warmer, days are getting longer; winter’s long-frozen ground is finally beginning to thaw. With the change in seasons upon us, it is time to shift our cold-weather closets towards fashions more suited for spring and summer. Here are a few ideas to update your spring wardrobe, including one of Belvedere’s best selling loafer shoes.
Loafers
Incorporating a pair of loafers into your shoe collection is an ideal way to, quite literally, step up your spring fashion game. The popular laidback shoe can be found in a variety of different styles, such as penny, tasseled, horsebit, or kiltie loafers. At Belvedere, we did our own twist on the classic loafer with the Luis Shoe. Crafted out of Genuine Ostrich Quill, this slipper-like shoe is rich in texture, fashioned with leather lining and a comfortable cushioned sole. Available in neutral tones as well as a golden yellow appropriately tagged “Buttercup,” this shoe was designed as a perfect slip-on for easy days in the sun.
Linen
Cut isn’t the only important thing to keep in mind when changing your wardrobe for spring; material can have a significant impact on how well a garment wears. Opting for clothing made from lightweight, absorbent textiles such as linen will make the transition to mild weather much more comfortable. Derived from the flax plant, linen is a durable natural fiber that tends to retain its texture better than cotton. Hailed for its moisture wicking capabilities, linen shirts and pants are an excellent choice when trying to keep the body cool as the weather changes.
Denim Jacket
First created in 1880 by famed designer Levi Strauss, the denim jacket has remained both a fashion and cultural staple throughout the 20th Century until today. One of the reasons for this is the jacket’s versatility; the right one can be layered with a sweater and overcoat while the weather remains cool, and just as easily thrown over a simple t-shirt once it warms up. While found in a plethora of washes and styles, simple designs by outfitters such as Levi’s or Wrangler remain classics for a reason.
Sunglasses
Perhaps no item says ‘warm weather’ more than a modern, smart pair of sunglasses. While intended to protect the eyes from the sun’s ultraviolet rays, the many different makes and shades of sunglasses available should make them a fashion staple in every man’s wardrobe. Top frame styles this year include classic metal aviators, colored acetate frames, and retro round sunglasses. Colored lenses are also increasing in popularity within the mens’ sunglasses market, which offer a fresh and colorful take on more traditional designs.
Belt
A casual belt is an excellent final staple for your spring collection. Slimmer belt bands will put a warmer tone on any look, drawing contrast to the heavier bands and chunky buckles that are popular through the colder months. Woven or braided belts are great choices for a casual look, as well as belts crafted in less-than-traditional hues. At Belvedere, we design slim belts in a multitude of leathers and colors, ranging from a simple black to more eccentric choices, such as our bright ocean blue. Nomatter what you choose, a casual belt is the perfect way to tie together your laid back, stylish spring look.

There is perhaps no season that is looked forward to more than the coming of spring. Its arrival breaks winter’s somber spell, casting instead a new glow that emanates from the risen sun, signifying the sweetness of renewal. It signifies rebirth; the Earth’s elements shift so that the ground may thaw, buds may bloom, and animals and humans alike may awaken. In Florence, Italy, where the idea for Belvedere Shoes was born, clean morning light spills over the hills that stretch in the distance, its warmth weaving through the streets; the violet wisteria trees begin to blossom with fervor. City and Earth are called to life once again.
It is with this in mind that we introduce our new men’s collection for this season, aptly titled the Primavera Collection. To us at Belvedere, primavera, the Italian word for spring, evokes both the season’s radiance and beauty, rolling from the tongue just as softly as the flowering hills roll along the Tuscan horizon. This new selection of shoes was assembled to induce a rich rainbow in the eye of the beholder, with inspiration drawn from baby blue painted skies, turned soil, and sun soaked rays. These shoes were designed with intention to be both versatile and comfortable, able to be worn into the night with ease as our days begin to lengthen. Created with growth and resilience in mind, this collection was made to last.
None of this is more evident than with our Parker Shoe, sold in an appealing golden hue appropriately dubbed “Sunny.” Crafted out of Genuine Ostrich and Soft Calf, the Parker is a sleek, elevated take on your typical sneaker. Featuring buttery leather, tieless laces, and a cushioned rubber sole, these bright and lightweight shoes were fashioned to launch you into spring. Pair them with our ostrich quill belt and you will be able to endure whatever changes the season has to offer.
Complementing the Parker in Sunny, the Brady Shoe in Antique Aqua was designed to reflect the beauty of fresh springtime skies. The Ostrich and Calf leather contrast paired with pearly white edging make for rich textural diversity across the shoe, while navy brushstrokes create visual accents over the top. While at first appearing similar to a standard saddle oxford shoe, the Brady is also uniquely fixed with a rubber sole, providing for a modern cross between comfort and elegance.
At Belvedere, we take pride in creating unique, fashionable versions of shoes that suit our clients’ needs, no matter the season of life. It is with this ethos that we reveal the Primavera Collection; our fresh take on classic designs. Whatever your plans for this season may be, may your first step into spring be made in style.
There are many fashion role models to emulate, and that’s a good place to look for both fresh and classically traditional ideas. But to make your style your own, it’s important to also examine your own uniqueness.
Take a deep dive into your sense of who you are to get a clear idea of the fashion direction you want to go.
Most men do well to start with neutral colors that mix and match easily and go with almost any accessories. Slacks, jeans, and jackets in muted tones like khaki, charcoal, navy blue, and brown work fine when paired with virtually any color of shoes, ties, hats, socks, or scarves. Those neutral colors never go out of style, either, so you can mix them with whatever happens to be trending.
Acquire a variety of core items that you’ll wear with multiple outfits, too. Those include jackets, overcoats, hats, shirts, boots, shoes, and signature accessories like belts, watches, and jewelry.
Actor Samuel Jackson discovered that a particular type of Kangol hat conveyed his style and personality. Film director Spike Lee realized that signature eyeglasses could do the same for him. Apple’s founder Steve Jobs reinvented the turtleneck. Musician Johnny Cash became “the man in black” through his wardrobe choices. Tupac Shakur wore a simple bandana, but in a way that became so iconic it was praised by Vogue Magazine−a leading fashion industry authority.
You can do the same. Find one or two items or particular looks that you can own as your instantly recognizable signature. Then build your wardrobe around those with individuality and confidence.
If you have two or three outfits that look amazing on you, that’s plenty to start with, as long as you mix and match their components and your accessories for variety. You can always grow your wardrobe without wasting time and money, as long as you value sustainable quality over poorly made quantity.
Insist on a perfect fit, and if you outgrow that fit engage a skilled tailor to keep you looking handsomely attired. Revisit your goals once a year, to ensure that your look consistently represents your individual personality. Soon that signature style will become a one-of-a-kind classic, with your unique name all over it in a way that nobody else can touch.
]]>Choose yours with intention. Consider the various styles and designs and what they say about you. Select wallets based on your unique needs and circumstances. Make them an essential component of your wardrobe.
A billfold is a folding wallet that’s small enough to fit in your pants pocket. Other wallets are longer, to accommodate unfolded money, a checkbook, or documents like airline tickets or your passport.
Most guys stick their billfold in their back pocket, which is why those pockets may button down for added security. You can carry a non-folding wallet in the chest pocket of a coat, which creates a slimmer look around your hips since you lose the extra bulk of a billfold. If you are concerned about pickpockets, carry a small billfold in your harder-to-access front pocket.
A wallet or billfold isn’t just for utility, but makes a strong statement about your personal style. Your wallet should be a signature item to complement your wardrobe, just as accessories like belts, cufflinks, and watches are.
Choose one that matches the color, craftsmanship, and quality of your belt. Begin with universal colors like black and brown, then add to your collection with tones like oxblood, cognac, navy, and green. You’ll find wallets in beautiful textures too, ranging from exotic eel and classic alligator to ostrich quill and smooth, supple Italian leather.
Once a year, empty your wallet and only replace items that are essential and are used at least once or twice a month. Otherwise, wallets tend to get bloated and start to resemble an overstuffed sandwich.
It’s also a good idea to buy a wallet with a zipper-secured coin purse feature inside. That’s where you can stash coins, subway tokens, or even a spare key. You’ll want enough slots for IDs and credit cards, but resist the urge to carry too many. If you start to accumulate lots of currency in your wallet, remove the excess and only carry the amount you really need.
Leather wallets also benefit from routine maintenance, just as your dress shoes do. Dab on a little saddle soap or leather conditioner when they get dirty or the leather starts to dry out. If the leather gets scratched or scuffed, you can treat your billfold or wallet with a little shoe polish. That will revive its elegant luster.
When using saddle soap, conditioner, or polish, just test an inconspicuous spot first to make sure the color matches and there’s no unwanted discoloration. Just like fine footwear, a well-crafted wallet is an investment that can last a lifetime, if you take care of it.
