Men Are Wearing Makeup More Often And It Could Work For You Too

Men Are Wearing Makeup More Often And It Could Work For You Too
Old stereotypes are being challenged on a seemingly regular basis and among those being taken to task is the notion that makeup is only for women. These days, seeing a man wearing some makeup in public is no longer like spotting Bigfoot in the wild. It’s becoming more widely accepted and that does not figure to change anytime soon.

Interestingly enough, the idea that men should avoid makeup is not one firmly entrenched in societal norms from day one. Byrdie took a long look at how makeup has been utilized through the centuries and as it turns out, there was a long stretch of time when men using cosmetics regularly was not unusual at all. The article notes that from 4000 BCE up to the 18th century, men using makeup was commonplace. Men used makeup to lighten their skin, hide bald spots, and even emphasize their cheekbones among other things.

Clearly, there is precedent for men wearing makeup and that makes a ton of sense. People have long been willing to try anything that can make themselves look better after all. For a long time, makeup simply became taboo for men, but the tides are changing once more as influential male members of modern society are learning the wonders of applying makeup.

Who Are the Men Wearing Makeup Today?

For the most part, the modern men who have embraced wearing makeup on a more regular basis are style icons and celebrities.

Ezra Miller, star of films such as “We Need to Talk about Kevin,” “The Perks of Being a Wallflower,” and more recently, as The Flash in different DC projects, has not shied away from wearing makeup, according to Fashion Beans.

Jared Leto, the always older-than-you-expect celebrity who’s working as the front man for the band Thirty Seconds to Mars and who’s appeared in his fair share of movies as well, is similarly known for using makeup to enhance his looks.

Football icon David Beckham has always had supermodel good looks and he is not afraid to improve his appearance with a bit of help from makeup.

Countless other male celebrities are now benefiting from makeup and that doesn’t even account for the influencers and YouTubers who have also helped further the acceptance for men making use of cosmetics.

Which Cosmetics Work Best for Men?

If you’ve never used makeup regularly before, the prospect of starting now will likely seem very intimidating and understandably so. What’s important to point out here though is that you don’t have to go all out right away and start using lipstick and mascara.

Start with items that you can be comfortable with.

Men’s Health recommends using basic items such as lip balm and concealer. Lip balms are great for hydrating your lips and making them look plump while concealers can hide the blemishes on your skin.

If you’re looking for an item that can effectively frame your face and give it better structure, a brow filler could work for you.

Once you get the hang of using makeup, you can try out other products such as foundations, bronzers, and even mascara.

The bottom line is that you shouldn’t shy away from wearing makeup just because of the outdated way of thinking that it’s only for women. If you think makeup can benefit you, feel free to use it.
